The Bollart® - edition Patrick Villas

Patrick Villas (B, 1961) is a Belgian artist-designer, with an impressive list of achievements including numerous international exhibitions, public assignments and entries in renowned collections.

A variety of messages from citizens and visitors was carved into many an Antwerp bollard: the graffiti of pleasures and irritations. The Antwerp Bollart is indeed - apart from all its other facets which are characteristic for urban society - an outlet for confessions. With his version of the Bollart, Patrick categorically invites the public to add their messages too, and he personally places the first signature and image. After all, the Antwerp Bollart® does not represent narrow-mindedness, yet it does represent progress, an aversion to prohibitions: mutual respect, the freedom of speech and the colourfulness of the multicultural.
